Hey loves! How are ya?! I’m better after a few days of being terribly sick with a horrible flu, I always get sick this time of the year it sucks haha! It’s been over a week since I posted and it honestly feels like forever! Today I wanted to give you a review and my take on protein bars, there’s a lot of misconception about them and one thing people don’t know is that they’re actually NOT incredibly healthy depending on the brand. In this post, I will review a QUEST bar and NAKD bar and let you know my over all verdict on which one is best!

As I mentioned before, there is a lot of misconception of protein bars and how healthy they are you. Unfortunately a lot of protein bars contain artificial ingredients, added sugar and up to 43 grams of processed carbs (SO NOT GOOD FOR YOU). So when buying protein bars I highly recommend looking the ingredients list. You can find an article here highlighting exactly what to look for in protein bars and which ones are the best for you.

QUEST bars are a popular one among many! To be honest, I’ve only had a QUEST bar about three times in my whole life! Their bars come in many varieties and I’ve tried s’mores bar and their chocolate peanut butter bar. For this review I wanted to try something different and went for their vanilla almond crunch bar which you can find here.

The packaging of the bar looks great, good enough for me to buy it right off the bat haha! I do have to say though like most QUEST bars I’ve had, this is a really hard bar, in the sense that the content of the bar has a very hard exterior. This was definitely something I had to look out for because I have a retainer ( at the back of my teeth) and have to be cautious that they won’t break. Good news is that my retainer didn’t break, bad news is that it was somewhat hard to bite into and chew. The consistency of it felt incredibly dry and in my opinion, did not taste like vanilla or almonds. Kind of tasted like an expired sugar cookie with maybe less sugar. However, when eating the bar, I would recommend only eating half of it since it is very filling.

NAY ! Sadly I really didn’t like this bar, a lot of factors let me down and I felt as though it just didn’t work for me personally. Since this bar is quite heavy, I wouldn’t recommend having it before a workout (especially if its high impact). In addition, their flavours were really lacking and this happened with the other two flavours that I tried in the past.

NAKD bars were a new try for me! I was already enticed by the fact that it was dairy free, wheat free and vegan! Although I’m not a vegan, I do appreciate products that are beneficial and tasty for me and can help the planet as well.

I’m a big banana bread lover so I got their banana bread flavoured bar and I promise you it actually tastes like banana bread! It’s consistency was nice, soft and chewy, and I loved that because it nicely balances out all of the incredible flavours in the bar! These bars are quite small so you don’t feel incredibly full after eating one but you are most definitely satisfied! It’s a great pick me up right before a workout!

Absolutely YAY! From the first time I bought these till right now when I’m currently writing this post, I still eat these bars before a workout and occasionally right after before I get home and prepare a shake! They are not only delicious but do not include any artificial additives, no additional sugars and good for the body! Who doesn’t want that? I HIGHLY RECOMMEND BUYING THESE ! (If you are in Kenya you can find them at Healthy U)

Would you rather try the QUEST bar or NAKD bar? Let me know in the comments!

This is not a sponsored post, all the opinions are my own.

I’m never good at DIY’s but finally created my own simple (DIY 😉 ) Coffee scrub and it smells so fucking good!

Hey loves! How are ya? I’m actually really good! The past couple days have been a bit off for me so it feels good to bounce back and feel content! In the shower, I FREAKING LOVE scrubs, they feel so nice on my body and one of my favorites is the Soap and Glory breakfast scrub, there’s one in like a maple syrup scent (which is my favorite) and there is one that is more of a citrus scent. I got one for my friend Margarita as well on her birthday and she was absolutely in love with it! I highly recommend it, especially for sensitive skin!  Sadly though, my Soap and Glory scrub is almost finished and I want to save just the little bit left that I’ve got, so I decided to create my own home made scrub ( if you’re not much of a coffee fan, I’ll create a different one and post it up in the coming weeks) .

This coffee scrub is so incredibly simple to make you’ll just need three things :

  • Coconut oil
  • Ground coffee
  • Brown sugar
  • Vanilla extract (optional if you want a different scent)

Right after you’re done scrubbing it all over, your body will feel fantastic! Although, I do have to mention that it can get quite messy in your shower!

Try this scrub out and let me know how it makes you feel by snapchatting me @petronella17 or sending me a tweet @petronellaa_

I LOVE sleeping naked, and yes I still sleep with stuffed toys!

Hey loves! Ok so this is such a different post for me to do. For those who don’t know, I love snapchat and probably snap the first thing when I wake up or right before I head to bed and a question I’ve gotten each time is , ” wow are you naked?” or “you’re always naked, is that how you go to bed?”. The answer is YES AND I FREAKING LOVE IT! Just a disclaimer, sleeping naked doesn’t necessarily insinuate something sexual for me (even though it’s been proved that it is good for you sexually as well). I just do it because it’s liberating and incredibly great for my body. Here are five reasons why it’s so fantastic and why you should sleep naked too!

You get a much better sleep

I don’t know about you, but getting into a deep sleep is the best thing, I feel like I’m truly at rest and I’m not fidgeting , somehow by sleeping naked my body has gotten into that deep sleep phase a lot easier than when I’ve heavily clothed myself.

It’s great for your reproductive system

Ok I can’t really speak for men but girls, this is soooooo good for your VAG (really feels weird saying that maybe we’ll just stick too hoo-ha) , this is when your “hoo-ha” will get some air, you’ll be reducing yeast production (YEAST INFECTIONS ARE NOT FUN), as it thrives in moist environments, and your vagina will most definitely thank you for it.

 Fantastic skin

We all want the perfect skin and one step closer to getting there is by SLEEPING NAKED. When your naked your skin really gets to breathe, and if you’ve got any issues with like body acne lets say, oxygen will be sent to those problem areas and you’ll be feeling so much better.

Your body temperature is controlled

When you’ve got your pajamas’ on, your body will most likely heat up, and I’m sure you don’t want to wake up sweaty and sticky ( or maybe you do? I don’t know?) , sleeping naked will automatically lower your body temperature which did I mention leads to a much better sleep ;)?

 Helps regulate your cortisol

Cortisol is a very strange chemical in the body but it can do a lot of damage. When you sleep naked, it helps keep your body temperature at the optimal ranges so your body can better create cortisol. If you sleep overheated your cortisol levels tend to stay high, even after you wake up. This increase can often lead to increased anxiety (I already suffer from anxiety so I don’t want it to get worse 🙁 ) , cravings for bad food, weight gain etc.
Are you going to start sleeping naked? Let me know in the comments!

Dream breakfast  ♥ healthy but sooo freakin’ good

Heya! How are you guys? Hopefully hungry after lusting after that photo of a breakfast I made a couple of days ago. I’ve always loved to cook and so cooking for myself everyday is so much fun, I love trying out new things as well, like a vegan lentil stew, I just tried out ( you can add meat if you’d like, but I’m not a big meat eater) , that a lot of you actually really loved on my instagram and snapchat. So I figured I’d give you an exact recipe on this whole breakfast!

For the pancakes:

1 cup self raising flour

1/2 teaspoon cinnamon

1 egg

1 tablespoon vanilla extract

1 scoop protein powder ( I ran out of vanilla so I used chocolate flavor and they came out just as good)

A quarter cup of milk ( or whatever milk you have, I’m dairy free so I use Soy or Almond)

Start off with the flour , pour it into a bowl and mix in your cinnamon and protein powder, then you’re going to add your milk and stir and then seep in the vanilla extract. Crack open your egg in there, and then mix up the batter until smooth. Heat up your pan on medium heat with either olive oil or coconut oil, then lower the heat and begin to make your pancakes! Also keep in mind that there are quite thick so don’t pour in too much batter into the pan, they’re not crepes!

For the juice:

I LOVEEEE A GOOD GREEN JUICE so I’ll give you a recipe on two of my go to green juices

1 handful of Spinach

1 handful of Strawberries

1 apple

A little bit of mint (sorry I don’t use an exact measurement but put as much as you’d like)

1 cup of water

1 handful of Spinach

1/2 an Apple

1/4 cup  of Pineapple

A little bit of mint

1 cup water

Hey loves! How are you doing? I’m so happy today, I’ve already been flooded with sooooooo many kind comments from all of you on my blog and I am so touched! REALLY, IT MEANS THE ABSOLUTE WORLD TO ME! Especially because I worked so incredibly hard , had so much going on personally , and had many moments of doubt. But the final result came out and I’m so happy you love the new look as much as I do.

30 DAYS OF YOGA! Wow I have rambled on and on about this for the past 3 and a half weeks or so. Once I started to feel physically better towards the end of the year, I got back to one of my favorite practices of yoga (I’ve done yoga roughly on and off for about 2 years now) and I love the practice. It could be slow, it could be intense but I think both have the same impact on you of being mindful and aware. Before the new year, I decided to challenge myself to 30 days of Yoga (yes that means everyday, no days off ) and see both the mental and physical change that was about to take place at the fresh start of the new year. I am so happy so many of you have joined me ( and it’s still not too late we’re only on day 3 and goes all the way up to the 31st of January) and so far it has been challenging but good!

This post is all about just giving you a basic introduction into what this challenge is all about and Yoga with Adriene (Youtube Yogi intstructor) is doing 31 days of revolution yoga, which is great for those who are just starting out and want to build up. Africa Yoga Project, is also fantastic! I know a lot of my readers aren’t from Kenya so for those of you currently in Nairobi listen up, Africa Yoga Project holds classes everyday with amazing morning classes, afternoon classes and evening classes (not to forget their new community classes everyday at 1pm run by donation) . I have loved going to their classes ever since I started and their staff is so INCREDIBLY FRIENDLY! I’ve already made so many friends by going and that makes me look forward to going to classes even more to see the friendly faces. So between the classes at Africa Yoga Project , Yoga with Adriene and an old yoga fitness video by Jilian Michaels called Yoga Meltdown ( you can find level 1 here) , I’ll be going with all three during the next 27 days. This is so exciting. What’s even more exciting is that I will do a “What I Eat In A Day” video on my Youtube channel and blog post to go along with it within the next week to show you what exactly I eat as I do this challenge and I will have a video and blog post at the end of the month with a full summary on how this experience was and would I do it again. That’s all for today. Are you challenging yourself to thirty days of yoga? Please let me know in the comments below!
